Fake Tanning in Manila - Spray tan Alternative

In the world of skin whitening here in the Philippines it’s hard for us westerners to find safe tanning solutions, it can be hard to find good products like that here since most are wanting whiter skin. I have found my solution! Vaseline Healthy Body Glow gives me an even tan and looks 100% natural 😀 I am loving it and it can be found in most SM Supermarkets for around just 250 pesos. ❤

Tourists Guide – Affordable Fun Things To Do – Manila Philippines

1. Ark Avilon Zoo

I made this number one because it was one of my best experiences here in Manila, Philippines. This Zoo is like no other I have ever been to. Surprisingly it is extremely clean and all of the animals are well cared for. It is smaller than most other Zoo’s I have been to but is really an amazing experience.

It is an indoor zoo which is also air conditioned. They have a good variety of animals and my absolute favorite animal there is Jenny the Chimp. She is the resident attraction and you can have an up-close experience with her when you go there (unless she is on her lunch break lol) She is so friendly and I am a huge fan of chimps and it was quiet when we went there so I just spent hours playing with her! So much fun!

If you go during the week you should find the place will be quiet enough for you to truly enjoy the experience and spent a lot of time with Jenny the Chimp. If you do go… say hi to her for me! 🙂

2. Resorts World Manila

Resorts World Manila is a great place to unwind and be entertained. It has a large casino, live shows, great dining, cinemas, nightclubs, shopping and much more. I really love going to hang out there as it is very classy and at the same time affordable. For around 500 pesos you can eat at most of the restaurants there. If you are looking to hit a club there I would recommend you try Opus, It is a nice classy place with pretty decent music and crowd. I have a Russian friend who does a cabaret style show in the main bar 360 there, I went there to watch, dine and drink with friends and it was one of my most enjoyable nights out there one New Years Eve.

You can check out their website for more info on their current events.

3. Manila Bay

Manila bay is a great strip right in front of Mall of Asia, not only is the mall itself a great place to visit while in Manila, but opposite the mall right on the bay you will find a carnival type strip with kids rides, the Manila Eye Ferris Wheel, street stalls, carnival games etc.

The strip is also lined with bars and restaurants and if you are strapped for cash it really is a great outing for a couple, family or friends to take a walk and enjoy the scenery. They also have street performers who often do shows there which are very entertaining. My favourite is the street dancers its B-boy style dancing at it’s best.

4. Rockwell Powerplant Mall

If you are looking to shop, watch a movie, or some really great food then this is the place. I love the atmosphere in Rockwell… it is the classiest suburb in Manila in my opinion. It really is a stress free haven in the middle of the city. I went here with a friend of mine who lives in Rockwell and really enjoyed hanging out at this mall!

6. Ace Water Spa Pasig City

This is one of my favorite places to detox, relax and eat well. Ace Water Spa is an amazing place, it is a hotel/water spa. You can go to just use the water spa or you can stay there in the hotel also. The water spa is a huge wet spa with hot herbal soak pools, freezing cold dipping pool, and a massive pool with all kinds of massage jets, and other assorted water massage. You really feel the difference after just one visit there.

It is extremely refreshing and you can really loose yourself there and spend an entire day! I recommend going early in the morning and also enjoying their buffet lunch in the restaurant there.

Make sure you are wearing spandex/lycra swimming costume, if not you can rent. (Yep that means budgie smugglers for the boys) but it is well worth it! Their website has a huge list of all the facilities there so check it out. You can also rent or buy swimwear too.

Great place for couples, friends and families. The Kids area is really great too!

Price-  Around 500 pesos per head for water spa entry they also have regular promos avaliable on their site. The buffet is around 500-800 pesos.

7. Greenbelt Makati

Greenbelt is a huge mall in the middle of Makati Manila, it is both indoor and outdoor but the most attractive part for me and many other westerners is the outdoor area where there is an abundance of bars and restaurants.  It is a very nice place to go for a meal anytime and is also excellent for a relaxed night out to one of the bars or to go there for pre-drinks before clubbing. It is also the home of designer shopping in the Philippines. A very classy place with great ambiance.

There are quite a few entrances to this mall I recommend Greenbelt 4

8. The Fort Strip – Bonifacio Global City

This is a strip of restaurants and high class shopping, I mainly visit here to catch up with friends for a meal or snack. It is a great place to also take a walk and check out some nice stores. The Fort is home to most of my favorite restaurants and my fave place to go with the girls here is Sonja’s Cupcakes. There is also some nice bars and clubs around, I personally love Skinny Mikes Sports Bar it is quite a new bar and the guys love it for watching sports, their food is also amazing.

The Fort and Bonifacio Global City are home to the following attractions:
1. Market Market – One of the earliest landmarks in the area, developed by Ayala Land and caters to shoppers of all classes. It also houses the Market! Market Transport Terminal which serves as a hub for jeepneys, buses, and FX cabs with routes leading to destinations around Metro Manila.
2. Serendra – an upscale residential area that features variety of restaurants of different cuisines and grandeur that gives everyone a pleasant ambiance.
3. Bonifacio High Street – where trendy retail outlets as well as bars and restaurants are located.
4. Upscale residential condominiums such as Essensa, Pacific Plaza, Bonifacio Ridge, and Regent Parkway.
5. Commercial buildings such as Net One and Bonifacio Technology Center, as well as HSBC and Deutsche Bank offices.
6. Newly-built St. Luke’s Medical Center, which has state-of-the-art equipment and hundreds of hospital rooms and beds.
7. Bars and Restaurants like Encore, Prince of Jaipur, NBC Tent, Pier One, The Fort Square, The Fort Strip, and KarFort
8. Some international schools such as British School Manila, Manila Japanese School, International School Manila, as well as local pioneering schools like STI (Systems Technology Institute).
9. Soon-to-rise would be Taguig Coliseum and Convention Center and the Shangi-La at the Fort.  Next year, there will be SM City Taguig, which is expected to host the fourth IMAX Theater in the country.

10. Manila American Cemetery and Memorial – where graves of American soldiers in WWII were laid to rest.
11. S&R Shopping Center – to satisfy the craving for All-American goods .
12. Car showrooms – Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Mini, BMW, and soon, Lexus
13. MC Home Depot.
14. [Update]: The Mind Museum at Taguig opens March 16 and this is also your guide to get there. Just mention to the jeepney or Fort Bus driver to drop you off near Mind Museum.

Directions on how to get to The Fort:

From the north of Makati (Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, CaMaNaVa):

Option 1. From EDSA, ride a bus southbound to Baclaran or Ayala or take an MRT and go down at Ayala and look for the jeepney terminal (under MRT station) and ride those that are bound for Market Market. Note that the jeepney/FX trips here might not be that frequent; the other options have more assurance of frequent trips.

Option 2. From EDSA, ride a bus southbound to Baclaran or Ayala or take an MRT and go down at Ayala, cross EDSA using the MRT bridge and look for the bus terminal of The Fort buses (at the gate of Forbes across Shell Station) bound for Fort Bonifacio. These are air-conditioned buses that go around Fort Bonifacio.

Option 3. From EDSA, ride a bus southbound to Baclaran or Ayala or take an MRT and go down at Guadalupe. There are jeepneys in Guadalupe that are bound for AFP Housing and Fort Bonifacio Gate 3. You can ride either of the two, both of those routes pass by The Fort/Serendra. If your destination is by 3rd/5th Avenue, ride AFP Housing; if it’s on the other side of the The Fort/Serendra (meaning along McKinley Parkway), ride Gate 3. In any case, The Fort is a small area and you can just go to buildings by walking.

Option 4. From the C5 area, ride an FX or jeepney going to Kalayaan Avenue and go down at the intersection of Kalayaan and C5. There are jeepneys bound for Market Market from that corner.

From the south (Pasay, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas):

Option 1. From EDSA, ride a bus northbound to Fairview or Monumento or take an MRT and go down at Ayala and look for the jeepney terminal (under MRT station) and
ride those that are bound for Market Market. Note that the jeepney/FX trips here might not be that frequent; the other options have more assurance of frequent trips.

Option 2. From EDSA, ride a bus northbound to Fairview or Monumento or take an MRT and go down at Ayala, cross EDSA using the MRT bridge and look for the bus terminal of TheFort buses (at the gate of Forbes across Shell Station) bound for Fort Bonifacio. These are air-conditioned buses that go around Fort Bonifacio.

Option 3. From EDSA, ride a bus northbound to Fairview or Monumento or take an MRT and go down at Ayala, cross EDSA using the MRT bridge, and look for the jeepney terminal where jeepneys with signboard McKinley-Fort-Bonifacio-Gate 2 that are bound for Market Market are stationed.

Option 4. From EDSA, ride a bus northbound to Fairview or Monumento or take an MRT and go down at Guadalupe. There are jeepneys in Guadalupe that are bound for AFP Housing and Fort Bonifacio.

If you are commuting to The Fort from the Makati area:

Option 1. There are jeepneys in the Ayala terminal (under MRT station) that are bound for Market Market.

Option 2. There are also jeepneys passing along Pasong Tamo/Mantrade/WalterMart (along Pasay Road) that are bound for FTI. Ride the one that goes to Gate 3. From Gate 3 or end of Pasong Tamo Extension, there are jeepneys bound for Guadalupe, passing by The Fort.

Option 3. There are also jeepneys in Guadalupe that are bound for AFP Housing and Fort Bonifacio.

If you are coming from the Manila/Caloocan area or near the LRT stations, the best way is to take the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and go down at the EDSA-Taft Avenue station, use the footbridge that connects the LRT station to the MRT station and then ride an MRT going to Ayala and follow the directions stated above (for taking MRT).

If you are in the Taguig or Paranaque area, ride a jeepney going to Nichols in Taguig, ask to be dropped off the Gate 3 – where the jeepney terminal to The Fort is located. From Gate 3 , there are jeepneys bound for Guadalupe, passing by The Fort.

Going around the Fort Bonifacio area is now easy through the use of CityLink buses and the electric tricycles.

For private vehicles: Fort Bonifacio is just along the southbound side of C5 between Kalayaan Avenue (in Makati) and the C5/Nichols Exit. The area can also be accessed through EDSA northbound using either a) KalayaanAvenue b) McKinley Road going to Forbes by the Ayala corner or c) C5 flyover coming from Buendia. Parking is available on most buildings in The Fort as well as paved open lot parking spaces.
The area is already traffic-heavy during rush hours on normal days (due to the volume of cars going to Makati and SLEX) and expect bumper-to-bumper heavy traffic during Christmas season on both sides.

Of course, you can ride a taxicab from any area around the metro and just mention “The Fort”, “Fort Bonifacio”, “Serendra”, or “High Street” and the driver already knows where to go.
